You will no doubt be aware of the imminent snowfall forecast
for this week. As ever we will aim to
continue our deliveries as usual but apologies in advance if we are unable to
get through to you.
We are well into that part of the year that is described by
growers as The Hungry Gap – the period after most crops have been harvested and
new crops are not yet ready. So we rely
on stored local produce, roots particularly and other crops that tolerate
standing in the winter fields, augmented with produce from Europe . Over the next few weeks we will be turning to
Europe for more produce – onions, carrots and new season potatoes will be ready
in Spain and Italy before our
growers can harvest any home-grown crops.
